ENGLISH
We have been learning how to research the habitats, classification, appearances, diets, and behaviours of different animals. We have been learning how to take this information and present it as an information report using the correct structure.
MATHS
We have been learning how to tell the time using digital and analogue clocks. We have been learning about fractions, multiplication and division.
RELIGION
We have been learning about Mary MacKillop, the theme: See a Need and Do Something about it, and how we can give hope to communities in need. We have also been exploring the Old and New Testaments of the Bible.
HEALTH
We have been learning how to make healthy and safe choices by looking at the 5 food groups and ways to keep active.

Enrolments for 2025:
Last week information went out to families to remind you of the need to confirm your child’s attendance at St Patrick’s for 2025. Please ensure that you return this information as soon as possible.
If you are leaving the school, I ask that you inform me via email the reasons for your move at gmannella@stpatsmp.catholic.edu.au as this supports our strategic planning.
We are pleased to see an increasing number of enquiries for future enrolments at our school. If you have existing children at the school with siblings still at home, please make sure that you complete a student enrolment application form to ensure your child has a place at St Patrick’s. These forms are available from the Office.
Building & grounds:
Last week saw the earth works of the sand pit area next to the new shed completed. (See photos below). This will shortly be reopened to students. A new water pump will be installed for sand/water play in the coming weeks along with painting and re-roofing.
LEARNING DIMENSION:
Year 1 phonics check:
This assessment took place on Monday and Tuesday of this week to assess student knowledge of phonics understanding. As part of our literacy program, the school conducts a focused phonics program called Playberry. This is undertaken by all students each day for around 40 minutes. The Phonics Check provides information to teachers about any gaps students may have early in a child’s time at school and thus provide the necessary intervention to support them.
Catholic Schools Music Festival:
Each year our senior choir participates in the annual Catholic Schools Music Festival with a performance at the Festival Theatre. Our choir forms part of a 400-voice strong choir on stage. Along with a range of individual and group support acts, the evening is a wonderful example of the talent that exists in our Catholic primary and secondary schools across South Australia. As someone who was part of the organising committee for 22 years, I wholeheartedly encourage you to attend this event, even of your child is not part of the choir. You will be amazed at the level of talent on show. This week our choir attended their rehearsal with their combined choir at Loret College. Tickets are available through Ticketek.
COMMUNITY DIMENSION:
Bookweek:
It was lovely to see so many parents and families attend our Book Week Parade on Thursday last week. We had lots of varied and interesting costumes to celebrate the ‘Magic of Books’. Even Pinocchio and Geppetto made an appearance. I would like to thank Huong Nguyen and Linda Moran for coordinating the event along with the staff who all got into costume for the day.
SCHOOL DISCO: This Friday 30th August! Tickets $8 per child or $20 for a family of three children (students). Tickets can now be purchased via Qkr. Thursday is the last day to purchase tickets. The school disco is only for St Patrick's Students. No older or younger siblings.
Parents who would like to assist on the night must have a current Working with children Check. Details of where children are to meet, collected and signed off has been sent home by teachers. Once inside the Hall, students will not be allowed out unless collected by their parent or other agreed adult
I thank Huyen Le for coordinating the event along with other members from our School Board/Parents and Friends group. Your support is always appreciated and valued.
60th Birthday Celebration:
Please keep Sunday 27th October free for this is our major 60th birthday celebration event.
Beginning with 10.00am Mass (Liturgy celebration), the day will include, the unveiling of the mural commissioned by South Australian Aboriginal artist David Booth, cultural dancing from across our diverse community, music, food and art exhibition of student’s amazing work.
There will be many invited guests including former Principals who led the school. It is an exciting time in the history of the school, and we encourage you to be a part of it and celebrate with us.
Boys soccer competition:
Congratulations to our Boys Soccer Team who made the finals and will now compete on Thursday 12th September. We wish them well and success in the event.

In times of confusion, suffering and doubt, we might turn away from Christ Jesus.
Know though, He will never turn away from us. He waits with patience and tender love for us.
His grace is always available during our difficult times in life. We need only ask and we will receive; we have His word on that and it is utterly trustworthy.
Lord, help us to turn to you and stay close when we have questions, doubt or are suffering.

Dear Families,
The Fair Work Act has recently introduced a new ‘right to disconnect’ that applies to school employees.
We understand that parent/ caregiver engagement goes hand in hand with student wellbeing and success and productive communication with parents/ caregivers is an essential feature of a positive school culture.
Digital technologies have greatly assisted in this regard and the use of parent/ caregiver information apps, social media (for general school information), school website, SEQTA and the use of email communication directly with staff is now routine.
We appreciate that parent/ caregiver expectations as to staff accessibility have evolved in the context of enhanced digital communication practices. While representing efficient modes of communication, the breadth of digital communication options can create ‘availability creep’ where school employees become more accessible in locations and at times of the day, weekends and during periods of leave when they should be able to disconnect from work.
The recent laws have taken effect which provide school employees a right to disconnect.
In the interests of respecting the rights of our staff and recognising the importance of facilitating and promoting healthy communication, we are introducing the following as standard protocol during term time: -
Noting our staff spend a significant amount of their workday focussing on teaching or other activities applicable to their roles, staff will endeavour to respond to parent/ caregiver communications requesting a response within 48 hours, noting staff will discern whether an urgent matter requires a shorter response timeframe; and - Parents/ caregivers are encouraged to contact the school front office in the first instance for general information.
We ask that parents and caregivers be mindful and supportive of the above.

A day in the life of a Mathematical Marvel!
On Tuesday 20th of August, a group of students attended Dominican School to participate in Mathematics workshops.
Various topics were explored throughout the day!
A game of chance, graph representations and the miracle of circles kept the students engaged in their learning.
It was a great day of fun, exploring the never ending marvels of Mathematics.

A friendly reminder to those families, who do not have a direct debit set up, that Term 2 fees were due the last day of Term 2 which was the 5th July 2024.
We offer direct debit, BPay, EFTPOS and also direct deductions from Centrelink payments to cater to the changing financial needs of our families at St Patrick’s School. When the direct debit payment option is selected your school fee payment is calculated over the full school year right up until the 31st of December 2023. This means smaller payments are required, making this method the most affordable way to budget for your commitment.
Please come into the office or ring me on 83034500 if one of these options would better suit your financial requirements.
School Card 2024 is applied for online if you haven’t already applied for this year please arrange as soon as possible as the cut off date is early November. Instructions on how to do this are available at the front office. School Card must be applied for each year.

Welcome Everyone!
This is a friendly reminder that there is a PUPIL FREE DAY on Friday 13th September and we are open from 7.00am until 6.00pm on the day. If you are not registered with us please register via our website https://campaustralia.com.au/school/?accessCode=2C91 . Once you have registered you will receive an email with a link to the portal to include yours and your child's details. If you require care for your child for before and after school we are open from 7.00am and will provide breakfast for the children which can be a crossaint, toast, cereals, milo which they can have with their friends in the mornings. Later, afterschool we are open until 6.00pm and we provide activities such as sports, arts and crafts and afternoon snacks. There is a homework area that is a little more quite for students who would like to concentrate on their individual work. Any questions please phone Michele on 0447 141 518.
